GG2015: Happylight Liberty

Our first product recommendation is the Happylight Liberty 10k Natural Spectrum Energy Lamp from Verilux.

Why we recommend

Too many of us walk around sleep deprived and for the vast majority of us, we are sleep deprived because of bad habits. Those bad habits throw our body out of sync. Light therapy, particularly in the morning, can help reset our body clock.

A lot of the marketing around this product (and other sun lamps) is their ability to improve Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), which is essentially a way of saying: “We help you feel better when you get the winter blues.” This is true. Their ability to help reset your body clock and improve sleep are a big reason for this.

Some finer details

This thing can crank out 10,000 LUX but with two different screens and two different settings, you can drastically lower that to a level more comfortable to you.

From the website:

…taps the potency of light to gently cue your body to recalibrate and stabilize, naturally reducing fatigue and lethargy while improving focus.

Cost: $99 through their website.

You may be able to find it cheaper through storefronts or other online retailers but make sure you are comparing apples to apples. For example, at the time of this writing, certain brick-and-mortar stores were selling something similar for $39.99. But it was only similar, a max LUX rating of 5,000.

What do others who have bought this product think?

Out of more than 200 reviews (at the time of this writing), the average rating for this product was 4.6 out of 5 at Amazon.

Final Thoughts

While the marketing material on the Verilux website and most of the reviews on Amazon refer to how this product helps improve SAD, a main reason for SAD is a lack of quality sleep. So if you are chronically sleep-deprived, have trouble sleeping or just want to sleep better, we fully recommend this product. And yes, it will help your Seasonal Affective Disorder too.
